Fourth of July

Our cherry tree is bursting with big, beautiful, sweet cherries!

 

We spent the fourth of July with our dear Velocity folks with a picnic at the park on base. We were going to watch the fireworks in town but they exploded on the third of July injuring three firefighters. Still we had a wonderful time at the park. All four of our protestant chaplains were there too.

Here are chaplains: Rick Montoya, Craig Forsythe, Mike Carollo and Richard Anderson.

We love these men of God and are thrilled to be working with them!

June 2010

The first of June we still had Jesse, Julie and Dawson with us. I LOVED having them here. My dad came over from Prineville, Oregon and picked up my grandma (Ontario, Oregon) to be with us. We took some priceless 5 generation pictures.

Jesse spent a good portion of his time here helping us improve our home. He painted our kitchen cabinets white. They were dark green before. It was so dark in the kitchen that it was almost depressing. What a difference the white makes!

He installed a new floor in our entry way and hallways. He worked so hard. We are grateful!

Supporters of ours gave us monies to do the home improvements. We had new free standing cabinets installed in the former dining room to expand the kitchen. Our kitchen was getting too small to meet our demands. This helps so much.

We also had a rolling kitchen island custom made for our space.

The time flew by and I had to say good bye to the Cornell family. Here is a picture of Dawson and me at the airport.

We were blessed to attend our mission’s (Cadence International) staff conference at the Green Lake Conference Center in Wisconsin. What a gorgeous facility. There is a beautiful prairie with millions of wildflowers on the property.

I hiked to the top of the Judson tower that overlooks the property.

The best part, however, was being with our dear friends and colleagues.

Tim Bettger and Ed renewed their friendship and Ed enjoyed being with Tim very much.

We also got to be with our dear Jennessa.

I was pretty lazy about taking pictures this time and don’t have very many more people pictures. I was greatly encouraged by my conversations and prayers with loved ones there. We came away refreshed and ready for ministry.

On the way to the airport in Madison, Ed and I had just enough time to check out the Wisconsin Dells. We rode the “Duck”. I had never been on an amphibious vehicle before.

As soon as we landed in Boise, ministry demands came calling (literally!).

May Happenings

My dear grandmother, Lois Page celebrated her 91st birthday in May. Below is a picture of grandma with my dad, his two sisters and their husbands, Ed and me.

Velocity (young adult ministry) is still going well. We went rock hounding in May and also visited a Jack Russell Terrier “farm”.

Our dear Tony is deploying for one year. We had a special prayer time for him. It looks like Tony may be in the same place as Jesse. That would be a blessing for both of them.

We were excited to have Jesse, Julie and Dawson come to the mainland for a visit. They usually give me a beautiful lei when I visit them in Hawaii. I couldn’t think of anything typically Idaho other than a potato. So I handed them each a potato at the airport.

We went together and met up with Greg at cousin Michelle’s wedding in WA state.

Dawson was in lots of pictures and got to meet his Buri great grandparents and other wonderful relatives.

Ed also very much enjoyed wrestling with his brother Mark.

On the way back to Idaho we had a rendezvous with my mom so she could meet her first great grandchild.

We got to stop at Multnomah Falls on the way home.

We made a quick visit to see my grandma and Aunt Myrna and Uncle Drexell.

Ministry still goes on. Our Holly got promoted and Dawson attended her promotion ceremony.

Friday nights are also still going well. We had Hawaiian food (Hawaiian Haystacks, Kahlua Pig, and Macaroni Salad) this past Friday.

 

We were thrilled to eat brunch with Pastor Ron and Tanya Lager from our home church in Roseburg, Oregon.  As we were finishing up, Matt Hallman (also from Roseburg) happened to walk past us.

 

We got a new chaplain here (Mike Carollo).His wife Shannon (and her baby, Madeline) went on a hike to the Bruneau Dunes with Julie and me.

It is so wonderful to have Jesse, Julie and Dawson here! I have probably taken hundreds of pictures of that sweet baby!

PWOC Spring Retreat

The Protestant Women of the Chapel recently had their annual retreat at Trinity Pines in Cascade, Idaho. We were strapped for funds this year and did the Beth Moore “Retreat in a Box” instead of having a guest speaker. It was great! The weather was fantastic (just a tid bit cold, but, hey we were in the mountains in springtime after all). We had such a good time together and even stretched ourselves to try things we never thought we would do like the “Leap of Faith”.

Here I am ready to go climb a tree to a platform 45’ high.

 

 

Eight of us went out on this “leap of faith”! I was shocked so many of our girls would do it. This is something we won’t ever forget! It was the scariest thing I’ve ever done.

Some of us went hiking on their trails. It is so beautiful there!

Pam and I even trudged through some snow.

Kate, Elizabeth and I took a break during our hike and enjoyed the view of the valley below.

Here is most of our group in the dining hall. I am already looking forward to next year’s retreat!

Spring….Finally

Although winter here has not been too severe, it has been LONG. We got ourselves a nice bit of huge snowflakes on Good Friday.

Prior to that weekend, a bunch of us went to Nampa for the Rock n Worship Roadshow.

 

It was a great place to take our group. Most had a wonderful worship experience.

The day after our snowfall, we were supposed to go to the park for a BBQ farewell for the Davis family and John Srihavong. There was too much snow still on the ground so we crammed 31 people into our house for the festivities.

John loves our kitty Molly. John got orders for Osan AB in Korea.

On the right are Tiffany and Mike. Mike got a job in Montana…

These two departures are leaving huge holes in this ministry. We already miss them lots.

The next day was Resurrection Sunday and we had a full house for that.

Our Friday night dinner and study times are also going very well. We sure do love our group.

 

Yesterday, we took Dan and Aaron with us to Nyssa Baptist Fellowship in Nyssa, Oregon. I spent a good part of my childhood in that church. We shared with them what we are doing in Mt. Home. Dan and Aaron shared too. The congregation loved them. It was great!

Dan and Aaron were very well received in Nyssa.

I got to see Grandma!

Richard Adams showed his very nice car to Aaron and Dan.

We had to hurry back to Mt. Home for a Velocity leadership meeting and then a special baptismal Velocity service at the chapel for Colton and Dee.

All these are great things which we are thankful to God for.

I do however ache to hold that grandbaby of ours. For now, we get to see each other on Skype a few times a week.
