My Little Girl....

I haven't had any posts for awhile because we've been busy cleaning out the garage and picking up other messes that have occurred with our construction.  We thought we'd be done with all of that by now!  We've also been entertaining a young man, Jesse,  who has been here frequently. He seems to love God wholeheartedly and wants to court Julie.  We have given him our consent and we are thrilled.  Because they are both being so careful, I haven't taken any good pictures of the two of them yet. If you look at my blog for November 1 and scroll down to the guy shooting, that is Jesse.   Hopefully soon, I can update this blog with a photo of the two of them. For now, you get to see a photo of Julie I took a few months ago and this photo I took last month of him helping us do the final touches on our room addition.

Only a Few More Things to Do

We've been extremely busy the past few weeks trying to get the room addition done. We got the exterior done (trims and paint) the day before we got rain! The inside just needs tile in the window sills and trim under two doors. Yay! Here is what it looks like now:

The room has been used a few times already and it is so nice to have a large space. It's not crowded anymore.

Ministry on base is going well also. Ed is involved with a great men's ministry on base. Here is their weekly lunch study they do. The next picture is of a skeet shoot the group did a few weeks ago. Thank God for us for His great providence.

An Open House and a Sad Goodbye

Over the past weekend, we got enough of the room addition done to have an informal "Open House". Before everyone started to come, Don decided to touch up the windows still wearing the clothes he had worn to church.

The Open House went very well.  A special treat was that my mom, step dad and his sister in law (Barbara) came over for the festivities. They spent the night and we painted sheep the next day (pictured below, Barbara [l] and Mom [r]).

Also on Monday; Don, Priscilla and Ed continued working (we still have many unfinished items).

The day came for the dear Wrens to leave.  But wouldn't you know that Don decided to fix a leak on our faucet the morning they left!

We are very grateful to them and to all the others who have helped us with this project. 

Last night, we had a game night for a few folks from base.  It was great to have a big room to move around in.

Almost Done!

The past few days have been a whirlwind of activity. My pedometer showed that I walked 7.7 miles yesterday (I took the Wren's dog Peppie for a walk around the block, but the rest of the walking was just doing stuff here in the house). Don, Priscilla, Ed and I did lots of cleaning, cutting, trimming and painting yesterday.

If you look real closely, you can see a little poodle (Peppie) sitting in the blue chair.

We got some more help in the afternoon.

It was finally time to unroll the area rug, move in furniture and decorate! Not everything is done yet, but we have an Open House this afternoon (while the Wren's are still here). We still need to tile the windowsills, trim the bottoms of two more doors, install the pellet stove and a few more things (on the inside). The outside also needs some work. Here are some pictures of what we accomplished last night.

Rejoice with us! God has graciously provided the funds and the workers to get this massive project where it is. I'd love to tell you all the stories!

There's Always More to Do

Don and Priscilla Wren are here to help us finish the room addition. We plan to have a very informal open house on Sunday after church. It still won't be done, but we want to have some kind of festivities while the Wren's are here. Ed just completed the painting of the exterior right before they came. Here is a pic of him still working on it.

Ed and Don have been working on something called a "cricket" which has something to do with the drainage off the roof (I think).

They have also been working on trims, which takes longer than we think. Priscilla and I have been painting trims.

In the meantime, ministry still happens. On Tuesday night, in addition to the Wrens, we had Perry, Jesse, Sheena and David over for dinner and games. Jesse was the chef. He cooked an excellent meal and cleaned up very well. Impressive!

Goodbye Summer, Hello Winter

Just last week, we were painting the outside of the house.  It was so hot, I couldn't wait to finish the job.  Today, we woke up to snow. 

It didn't stick, but that's ok.  I'm not ready yet for winter.  I hate being cold! This next shot is of part of the back yard and Julie's shoes with a light dusting of snow.  Hopefully, we can get the yard fixed soon before Winter truly does set in.  Don and Priscilla Wren are coming from Roseburg tomorrow to help us finish the rest of the room addition. 

Happy Birthday Sheena

Last night, Jessie (an airman on base) took several of us out to Macaroni Grill in Boise in his Suburban.  There we helped Sheena celebrate her birthday.  Sheena's husband, Ryan, is deployed until January.  They have been married around a year. Jessie and his friend, Kellen, treated us to a great meal.  We had a great time talking about Christian issues, especially Christian music.  It was something to hear them talk about Keith Green and the influence of his music.  Keith Green died in the early 1980's before they were born. In fact, I remember where I was when I heard that he had died. I loved his music.

It is such a privilege to be here at Mountain Home and get to be involved with the people serving our military.
