President’s Day Weekend

This past weekend was a very busy one. We had our usual Friday night festivities at our house. Saturday, we from Velocity (young adult ministry) had a group date. We were encouraged to dress up like the 1920s to 1940s. There were around 30 of us. John (the cat), Aaron (the duck) and Dan (Chow Dog) met first at our house.

We first went to Macaroni Grill and took a picture in the parking lot.

We then went mini golfing still dressed up in our garb.

Mike and Nikki went all out. We had tons of fun!

Sunday we went to church, attended a Velocity leadership meeting, drove to Boise to welcome Holly back from Afghanistan and arrived early at Velocity to set up (food, projector, etc.). It was a very full day.

Monday, a van full of us went to the Boise Rescue Mission. We were split up into three groups. There were painters, kitchen helpers and haulers. That day was one of their busiest.

We put together 60 box lunches and served over 200 hot meals.

We had fun! The picture above has Matt and Alicia. Alicia’s folks work at the mission. Her dad is retired AF. Matt & Alicia met through eHarmony. It is getting pretty serious and we couldn’t be more thrilled!

Beginning of February

We have a wonderful bunch of leaders in our young adult’s group (Velocity). Recently, some of them met at our house for dinner and a strategy meeting.

February 7 was Superbowl Sunday so Velocity put on a major party. It was estimated that we had 50 people in the building.  We started off with a flag football game. It looked like they all had so much fun!

We have had such a mild, nice winter and Sunday was no exception. I had two whistle pigs scurry right in front of me. A sure sign that Spring is right around the corner.

Stephanie made some great cakes.

Little Katherine was multi-tasking by getting nourishment, watching the game and working the cell phone.

This group is so much fun, those sitting close to me talked enough that we missed most of the game.

 

At the end of the party, some of our guys got into some mischief. They were going to push the cake onto Tony’s face.

It kind of backfired when the cake got all over the floor.

Dave and Dan started to help clean up right away.

That didn’t work too well so Dan and Aaron went to scrubbing.

We love these guys!

Exciting Growth

We are excited with the happenings here in Mt. Home! Here are some of things that have happened in the past few weeks.

Our head enlisted man at the chapel (NCOIC) Joe Hall retired from the military.

 

Joe’s old boss, Chaplain Toney came out here to officiate. Chaplain Barfield who also used to work here came from the Academy. Pictured (above) with Ed is Ch. Barfield and Ch. Forsythe. Pictured (below) is Ch. Toney’s dear wife, Pam and Sgt. Hall (the retiree). We will miss Joe very much!

Friday nights at our house have been exciting and crowded! We have a pretty fun group.

We are going through Focus on the Family’s “That the World May Know”. Thank you for your prayers for this ministry.

The young adult ministry on base (Velocity) is also going very well.  So many of our people have experienced extreme life change.

Velocity experienced it’s one year anniversary.

The next week at Velocity, our own John Srihavong decided to re enlist during our program. We love John and were thrilled to be included in this. He will be leaving us in March for Korea.

John shared a bit of his testimony afterwards. He came from a Buddhist background. He has really grown a lot since coming to Mt. Home.

Ed and I think this is the “funnest” and deepest group we have ever been involved with. We participate in deep things and some fun things too.

Thirty two of us went up in three vans to Bogus Basin to go skiing. What fun we had!

As you can see by Anna’s hair (above), it was VERY cold outside.

 

We warmed up in the lodge, which was extremely crowded. Mike is trying to reason with Nicholas.

We went to Chili’s after skiing. Our group was so friendly and “jocular” that everyone in the restaurant knew we were there.

At the end, some in our group had a “group hug”. Two strangers joined them!

Ministering to the military is such a privilege. We are grateful to God for this honor.

Christmas Week & New Year’s Eve 2009

We were blessed to experience a Page family tradition on Christmas Eve. As a child, those of us in the Page family would spend Christmas Eve together, eat Oyster Stew and open gifts. Ed and I joined Aunt Myrna and Uncle Drexell, Aunt Jan and Uncle Duane, my grandma and my cousin Natalie. What a blessing.

We drove home (90 minute drive) that evening and had half a dozen guys already at our house eating and getting ready to play games. Three of them spent the night.

Christmas day we had 25 people here with us. One of the relatives of one of our dear airmen, called me to thank us for investing our lives in him. She was choking up and so was I. What a privilege it is to serve these airmen. So many of our airmen have had their lives profoundly changed by Christ in the past year.

I was very pleased to have this double warmer that we found at Ross.

We played game after dinner and we also had a white elephant gift exchange. What fun we had.

Dan got a lovely jewelry case that he modeled for us.

In the above picture, Vance and Ed provided a fanny protection pad system for Chaplain Anderson after a slippery event outside of Vance’s house.

Julie is now 32 weeks along. Here is the most recent pregnancy picture I have of her.

New Year’s Eve here was spent at the Airmen’s Center (The Zone) and then onto the chapel for a concert of prayer. Regrettably, I only took a few lousy pictures. Some of our guys were performing death defying stunts around 1:00 AM.

Christmas week was a very sad week with one of our families here. Dolly delivered her baby, Vince, prematurely and he died. Her husband, Greg had to come back from a deployment. The memorial service was today (New Year’s Day). Ed and I attended and God was glorified as Chaplain Anderson preached. Dolly was shaking when I hugged her.

So, a very sad way to start a new year…
